Security

Dear Valued Customers, Suppliers, and Friends:

During the past 18 months, the entire rubber products supply chain has experienced a surge of dramatic inflation. To compound the problem, product availability issues have accompanied the inflationary pressures. Allocations, sales control, and "force majeure [French, A superior or irresistible power.] An event that is a result of the elements of nature, as opposed to one caused by human behavior.

The term force majeure
" are terms often used by our supply base.

Despite the price increases, major suppliers have recently stated that they are still not profitable enough to reinvest in additional capacity. One likely outcome is that when future investments are made, they will not be made in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. .

This brings us to the subject of security. At Excel Polymers, our highest priority is to secure a supply chain flow of the ingredients needed to produce compound for our customers. We have encouraged our customers to broaden their thinking about supply and allow us to find global sources of key materials.

Excel is committed to keep your materials pipeline flexible and available.

Another element of security is technology protection. Our Spectrum[R] control system digitizes formularies, and this patented ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  interface allows only very limited access to those in our business who need to know. The formulary formulary /for·mu·lary/ (for´mu-lar?e) a collection of recipes, formulas, and prescriptions.

and process details are what we use to add value. This protection of technology is paramount to our existence in the rubber products supply chain.

Excel is committed to protecting your technology.

One final aspect of security is market positioning. Custom rubber compounders around the world have decided to produce semifinished sem·i·fin·ished

1. Made, treated, or sold to be used in a finished product: semifinished steel.

2. Partially finished: a semifinished basement.
and finished goods in direct competition with their customers. Military components, weatherseals, industrial casters, and wheels made by traditional compounders are now on the market. Excel customers and suppliers can be certain that our business--our only business--is to deliver high-value, high-quality, highly productive rubber compounds and additives.

Excel is your partner, not your competitor.

On behalf of everyone at Excel Polymers, thank you for your business and continued support.

Best regards,

John E. Quinn
