Excalibur launches RetrievalWare, first component solution for information retrieval.

Corp. (NASDAQ:EXCA) Tuesday introduced RetrievalWare, the first, unified family of software components for building best-of-breed retrieval solutions across multiple information types.

Seamlessly integrating Excalibur's pattern-based and semantic search technologies, RetrievalWare is the only system optimized for the entire spectrum of information retrieval: text, image and even signal-based information such as voice retrieval.

Based upon a single, flexible and modular architecture, RetrievalWare delivers an environment of unprecedented versatility, reliability and scalability for developers to create solutions which deliver relevant information to end-users.

Excalibur RetrievalWare components will drive powerful and accurate information retrieval for electronic publishing, document and image management, and a wide variety of software solutions and applications. These applications will support users in workgroups, throughout enterprises and across the Internet, World Wide Web and other wide area networks.

Excalibur announced the availability of the RetrievalWare SDK (Software Developer's Kit), RetrievalWare text servers and optional servers and components. The company also unveiled the RetrievalWare Web Server for integrating both retrospective search and real-time filtering capabilities into World Wide Web applications.

Future RetrievalWare releases will incorporate Excalibur's fingerprint and image retrieval servers. In addition, RetrievalWare components will enhance the functionality of Excalibur EFS (Electronic Filing Software) and will form the basis of a major, new release of EFS in 1996.

RetrievalWare components are already being used by Excalibur partners Calspan SRL Corporation, EDS, KPMG Peat Marwick and SRA International, Inc., for applications including intelligence analysis systems, multimedia asset management, document management and workflow, and online information systems.

The initial RetrievalWare components will be available in November, 1995. The RetrievalWare SDK is priced at $5,000, with additional platforms for $2,500. A RetrievalWare starter kit, including the RetrievalWare SDK, Pattern Server, 10 users, training and 90 days of hotline support, can be licensed for $9,950.
