Examining your reality.

With all due respect to Ms. Jane Langa of the St. Louis Ethical Society (Letters to the Editor, May/June 2006), I must question what else she reads besides the Humanist. If she finds the coverage of realistic conditions, in an insightful manner, "delivered in such a depressing and unprofessional manner" bothersome, what else is she reading?

I too am a new subscriber to this magazine and have found that it is one of the few publications that will actually address some of the most important issues of today's society. My only complaint goes the other direction: you do not cover enough of the most fundamentally important issues of our time. You've cracked the door, but appear to be afraid to step inside the abyss of American (and international) culture and attack the unethical unethical

said of conduct not conforming with professional ethics.
 contradictions that are running rampant.

I have no doubt that Ms. Langa is a caring, intelligent person, and don't intend this letter in any negative manner toward her beliefs. In fact, I honor her for her courage to speak up on anything, and not become just another complacent victim of today's societal abattoir abattoir (ăb'ətwär`) [Fr.], building for butchering. The abattoir houses facilities to slaughter animals; dress, cut and inspect meats; and refrigerate, cure, and manufacture byproducts. . Too few people have the moral integrity to put their name where their ethics are.

This magazine often references John Locke and Charles Darwin, but as a newer subscriber I would like to reintroduce Re`in`tro`duce´

The Humanist is one of the finest publications to ever be produced, and I am honored to be a recipient of the wisdom it professes. Please, examine your own personal realities, and help this fine publication grow. The world needs a rational voice to combat the idiocy IDIOCY, med. jur. That condition of mind, in which the reflective, or all or a part of the affective powers, are either entirely wanting, or are manifested to the least possible extent.
