Exadel Submits ''Enterprise Component Framework Project'' to Eclipse Foundation; Open Source Project to Provide Comprehensive Platform for Building Server Applications in Java.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Exadel, Inc., a leading provider of software, services, and support that enable companies to create mission-critical business applications based on open source and Java(TM) technologies, today announced its proposal to the Eclipse Foundation for an Enterprise Component Framework project, which would create an end-to-end business application development platform based on Eclipse.

The Enterprise Component Framework Project's goal is to create a comprehensive, component-based model that will give enterprise application development teams an unprecedented level of flexibility to build business applications. By taking a component-based approach to enterprise application development, the project will allow enterprise developers to create and re-use enterprise components without targeting any specific environment, such as J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) A platform from Sun for building distributed enterprise applications. J2EE services are performed in the middle tier between the user's machine and the enterprise's databases and legacy information systems.  or J2SE (Java 2 platform, Standard Edition) See Java 2.

, resulting in a new breed of enterprise components that can run both on server or client sides.

"We are very pleased that Exadel has brought forth the Enterprise Component Framework proposal," said Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation. "It is an excellent example of the innovation that is occurring in the Eclipse community and specifically on the Equinox equinox (ē`kwĭnŏks), either of two points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and the celestial equator intersect. The vernal equinox, also known as "the first point of Aries," is the point at which the sun appears to cross the  OSGi based framework."

Decreasing both the cost and time of enterprise application development, application development teams can tap the Enterprise Component Framework to assemble and reassemble re·as·sem·ble

software components in new and flexible configurations. The project will also allow developers to incrementally acquire and install software components, and conversely, to decouple and/or distribute development to outside entities, giving organizations a new level of flexibility, reusability and adaptability over their software development process.

The new project also includes a number of capabilities that are designed to broaden and advance the Eclipse development ecosystem including:

--Leverages the Eclipse implementation of OSGi.org specification -- using Equinox as a component container

--Components and services are assembled with loose coupling and dynamic re-coupling

--Enables the dynamic discovery and availability for business components and services running inside the same component container

--Service-based approach is applied both inside and outside of the application

--Includes a number of standard optional services: logging, configuration, Tomcat, JNDI (Java Naming and Directory Interface) A programming interface (API) from Sun for connecting Java programs to naming and directory services such as DNS, LDAP and NDS. , JMS (Java Messaging Service) A programming interface (API) from Sun for connecting Java programs to messaging middleware such as IBM's MQSeries and TIBCO's Rendezvous. JMS is part of Sun's J2EE platform. See J2EE.

JMS - Java Message Service
, JDBC (Java DataBase Connectivity) A programming interface that lets Java applications access a database via the SQL language. Since Java interpreters (Java Virtual Machines) are available for all major client platforms, this allows a platform-independent database , persistence (Hibernate See hibernation mode. ), Spring, JSF (JavaServerFaces) A standard framework of components for building rich user interfaces for Java applications. JavaServer Faces run on the server, but are displayed on the client.

JSF - JavaServer Faces
, JTA (Java Transaction API) A programming interface (API) from Sun for connecting Java programs to transaction monitors such as IBM's CICS and BEA's Tuxedo. JTA is part of Sun's J2EE platform. See J2EE. , user authentication and authorization, preferences, Jasper reporting, Facelets, Scheduler, and many others

--Includes a toolset for component development and a repository for component sharing

Business developers are encouraged to participate and give feedback by joining the project. A more detailed summary of the Enterprise Component Platform is available at: http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/ecp/

"Software components and their capabilities are the key technologies for addressing the increasing rate of change and need for speed, flexibility, and adaptability demanded in today's software development organizations," said Fima Katz, founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Exadel. "Exadel's proposal to the Eclipse Foundation for an open source Enterprise Component Framework could completely transform the way that business applications are developed."
