Everyone knocks Iraqi politicians, for missing their benchmarks,
going on vacation, and generally not being all we want them to be. But
they take risks of which average politicians know nothing. They are
always being kidnapped, maimed, murdered. And the same things happen to
their wives and children and friends--routinely. We were reminded of
this fact by the recent murder of two provincial governors: Mohammed Ali
al-Hassani and Khalil Jalil Hamza. Yes, we are frustrated by Iraqi
politicians. But we should remember, too, that they are--many of
them--among the bravest people on earth. And good people everywhere
should support them till the end.
