carnival time The Deighton festival is ready to burst into life

FESTIVAL fever is set to take over Deighton at the weekend.

The annual Deighton Festival will burst into life on Saturday, with music, dancing, sports and family fun.

The event will kick-off with a procession through the streets, featuring floats and colourful costumes designed by local schools and community groups.

The parade will arrive at the Deighton Centre at 2pm, where there will be a car boot sale car boot sale

At 2pm, the musical entertainment begins.

The show, compered by D.Bo General, will feature performers from DanceWork Studios, Suga Brown Street Dance and the Violette Supreme Majorettes Majorettes are girls who used to demonstrate choreography during parades. Unlike baton twirling performers, they are seen as a show rather than a sport. They are usually seen as the European equivalent of cheerleaders. .

Younger children will be kept entertained with a bouncy castle and mini-fun fair.

Nail art, face painting and other activities are on offer for parents and children in the SureStart "village" area.

Visitors can also tantalise their tastebuds with Caribbean, Asian and British cuisine.

Festival co-ordinator Howard Belafonte said: "The festival is a real celebration of the people of Deighton. Everyone is invited to join us.

"So many people and local organisations are involved that it's going to be a great day for the whole family."
