Stories must include a holiday theme such as Christmas, Hanukkah or New Year's, and must be inspired by Register-Guard assistant graphics editor Paul Carter's photograph, which appears on this page.

The winning story, to be chosen by a panel of Register-Guard writers and editors, will appear on the cover of Oregon Life on Dec. 21.

The winning author will receive $100 and a framed copy of the cover of Oregon Life that includes the story.

Stories must be typed or computer-printed, double-spaced, on ordinary white paper. Please include your name, address, age and daytime Daytime may refer to:

  • Daytime (album), a single by the German band Jane

 phone number. No computer discs or e-mail entries will be accepted.

Entries must be delivered to The Register-Guard, 3500 Chad Chad (chăd, chäd), Fr. Tchad, officially Republic of Chad, republic (2005 est. pop. 9,826,000), 495,752 sq mi (1,284,000 sq km), N central Africa.  Drive, by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5; or must be mailed to us with a postmark no later than Dec. 5.
