This volume discusses how to help children with developmental delay reach their potential using functional learning, for those running training courses for early childhood workers, teaching training and child development courses, and parents. The authors provide historical background and theoretical context to the approach, describe similarities and differences to other methods, and outline techniques and activities to use with children to help them learn, play, and communicate in different settings. Stroh (a speech and language therapist, social worker, and developmental therapist) et al. worked at High Wick Hospital in the 1970s, a specialist children's unit in the UK where they were involved in the development of functional learning as an integrated therapeutic approach. The CD contains videos, ideas for materials for use with activities, and printable materials for making cards and worksheets.
