FAIRFAX, Va. -- Everware-CBDI Inc., the leading independent source of practices, consulting and education on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), announced today the publication of a metamodel for SOA in the October CBDI CBDI Component Based Development and Integration

Journal and a customer review process.

SOA is widely regarded as one of the most profound changes ever in enterprise computing Refers to information technology in the larger company. See enterprise data and enterprise networking. . Yet there is general confusion over basic concepts, architecture and practices. Everware-CBDI Vice President David Sprott explains, "Many large organizations report they are experiencing 'service anarchy' as services are implemented in an inconsistent manner. The situation has been made worse by the proliferation proliferation /pro·lif·er·a·tion/ (pro-lif?er-a´shun) the reproduction or multiplication of similar forms, especially of cells.prolif´erativeprolif´erous

To address these issues Everware-CBDI has developed a comprehensive metamodel that defines SOA unambiguously leveraging current industry standards. A metamodel defines the rules for building business and software models and defines terminology in a consistent manner to eliminate confusion. The SOA metamodel provides essential precision for the specification of business services, and enables SOA automation and effective governance. Over the next 3 months, Everware-CBDI will facilitate a metamodel review and refinement process with input from the CBDI Forum worldwide membership comprising architects from many of the world's largest corporations, governments and the software industry.

"Our objective with the review process is to establish a metamodel that will allow large organizations to evolve beyond today's tactical service activity to a genuinely strategic SOA environment," Sprott continued. "We anticipate this work will form the basis for standardization of key aspects of the service architecture and that Everware-CBDI will submit the reviewed metamodel to appropriate standards bodies Following are some of the standards bodies defined in this database. For Windows users of CDE, look up Lessons/Review/Associations. For Web users of CDE's online HTML version, review the Lessons list at the bottom of the definition.
