Evergreen's Performa Processor Upgrade Family Now Powered By Intel's Pentium 4 Northwood Core.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CORVALLIS, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 2003

Evergreen's Performa 4 2.4GHz and 2.0GHz upgrades allow Pentium 4(R)

users to migrate from value performance socket 423 Willamette

processors to high performance socket 478 Northwood processors

Evergreen Technologies, Inc., a leader in PC performance upgrades since 1989, today announced the latest developments in its Performa processor upgrade family.

The new Performa 4 upgrades are designed for migrating original socket 423 Pentium 4(R) systems beginning at 1.3GHz to the next generation socket 478 Pentium 4(R) architecture up to 2.4GHz speeds.

The original Willamette Core Pentium 4(R) processors were based on Intel's older 0.18 micron manufacturing technology, with speeds starting at 1.3GHz and 256K Level 2 cache See L2 cache.

memory. The newer Northwood Core Pentium 4(R) processors are produced with the improved .13 micron manufacturing process that increases the performance scalability of the Intel NetBurst micro-architecture by delivering higher clock speeds with lower thermal power and doubling the Level 2 cache to 512K.

"With the implementation of Intel's .13 micron manufacturing process and the migration to a 478-pin processor package, users who purchased systems based on the earlier Willamette core Pentium 4(R) processor have been barred from easily increasing CPU speed See MHz.  and power by the socket architecture limitation," said Mike Magee Mike Magee may refer to:

"We now offer this next generation Pentium 4(R) processor performance to users of older Pentium 4(R) systems who want to get more from their power-hungry software without investing in a completely new PC or motherboard."

Evergreen's Economy Performa 4 upgrade enables users of Pentium 4(R) systems running at 1.3GHz and above to easily and affordably gain 2.0GHz processor speed. Based on the Northwood core Celeron processor, this upgrade delivers all the features of the Northwood core Pentium 4(R) with a more limited 128K Level 2 cache. This value upgrade option is ideal for those home and business users with more moderate multimedia performance requirements. Evergreen's Economy Performa 4 2.0GHz is $149.99 (street price).

Easy Installation, No Reinstallation of Software Necessary:

Customers need only open their system case and follow Evergreen's illustrated, step-by-step installation guide to remove the old Pentium 4(R) CPU and replace it with Evergreen's Performa 4 upgrade. The whole upgrade process takes minutes, as the customer will not need to reinstall To go through the installation process once again, because files have become corrupted.
