Since its inception in 1997, the annual Bay BYTES Rural Technology Forum has evolved and grown in Atlantic Canada. The Canadian Technology Network/National Research Council has initiated the expansion of the Rural Technology Forum to northeastern Ontario. Northern Networks Trade Conference takes place Sept. 25 to 27 in Fort Frances Fort Frances, town (1991 pop. 8,891), SW Ont., Canada, on Rainy River, opposite International Falls, Minn. It is chiefly a lumbering center with sawmills and a pulp and paper factory. Tourism is also an important industry, with abundant fishing and hunting nearby. . The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association Regional Conference takes place Sept. 18 and 19 at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay.

An agricultural mineral/organic farming conference takes place Oct. 8 at Fox Lake Lodge in Cartier. The theme of the event is organic agricultural potential for Northern Ontario.
