"On this day of commemoration, I hope we will do more than just remember Dr. King," said Bradbury, the event's keynote speaker. "I hope we pledge in our own hearts to follow his example ... and heed his call to speak for love and justice. I hope we all find the courage to pursue peace." Bradbury liberally sprinkled his 20-minute presentation with quotations from several of King's speeches from the 1960s. "It was absolutely right on the mark," said Coleman, who has attended all 17 of the annual King celebrations. "Bill Bradbury's speech showed respect and dignity for Dr. King, which I really appreciate." Yote Cooley said he was pleased that Bradbury used King's own words to honor his legacy. "To constantly hear them over and over, even reworked by someone else, is still refreshing and touching to my heart," Cooley said.
