Euthanasia.

Ottawa--With minimal attention from a media almost totally absorbed in the ramming through of the Liberals' same-sex "marriage" and budget legislation, a Bloc Quebecois MP snuck in a first reading of Bill C-407 on June 15, 2005.

The private members' bill, tabled by Francine Lalonde (BQ, La Ponte de L'Ile) proposes to amend Sections 222 and 241 of the Criminal Code so that no one would be charged with homicide for aiding in the death of a person afflicted with terminal illness or severe physical or mental pain without prospect of relief. Lalonde says, "The choice to die with dignity should be a right."

Comment: This bill will probably resurface in the fall once Justice Minister Irwin Cotler decides how soon it will slot into his agenda. The "Dying with Dignity" group, whose name is a euphemism for killing the old, the sick, and the handicapped, opined that it is time to change the law. Canada's two leading corrupting newspapers, the Globe & Mail (July 12) and the Toronto Star (July 16), immediately concurred in editorials. Globe columnist Jeffery Simpson joined them on lane 20.
