Ryan Royster was 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead a nine-hit attack for the Challengers in the first game. Pitcher Cody Newell picked up the win, striking out seven and scattering six hits.

Sean Mascolo pitched a complete game in the nightcap for the Challengers (22-6), striking out five and giving up seven hits.

Creswell splits softball

SHERWOOD - Betty Lou McClellan was 5-for-6 with a triple, two doubles and four RBIs as the Creswell Fury split two games Sunday to claim fifth place at the Alaskan Midnight Sun 18-and-under softball tournament.

The Fury started the day with a 10-3 loss to the Tualatin Twins as McClellan was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Lindsey Smith was 2-for-3.

Creswell recovered to defeat the Washougal (Wash.) Diamondettes 8-1. McClellan was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs and Smith was 2-for-2.

Kim Winslow knocked in two runs with a double and Dani Taylor knocked in three runs.

Jennifer Elder pitched a one-hitter in the win.
