, took the grand prize Wednesday in a national cooking contest, with an original recipe that gives traditional nachos a Middle Eastern twist.

Chosen as one of four finalists - two hailed from Texas and one from Oklahoma - Sanfilippo prepared her Near Eastern Lamb "Nachos" at the Bryant Park Bryant Park is a 9.603 acre (39,000 m²) public park located in the New York City borough of Manhattan.  Wolf Grill and her choice of a $25,000 makeover for her kitchen or garden, reflecting the theme of the contest, "Where the Garden Meets the Grill." She also received an all-expenses-paid trip to New York for herself and her husband, to participate in the finals. She had entered only one cooking contest previously.

Sponsors of the contest included Turning Leaf Vineyards, Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines and the online cooking Web site Epicurious.com.

A story about Sanfilippo - including her recipe - appeared on the front of the Entree section of Wednesday's Register-Guard.
