Ethiopia. (News in Brief).


Last year, FEMNET sent out an alert regarding the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA EWLA European Women Lawyers Association (Brussels, Belgium) ), an independent women's organisation working to defend women's human rights and improve civil society throughout Ethiopia. Earlier that month, the Ethiopian government had abruptly a·brupt

 terminated EWLA's work and frozen its bank accounts. FEMNET is pleased to report that on October 17, 2001 the Ethiopian Ministry of Justice lifted the suspension imposed on EWLA thanks to the extensive regional and international responses from individual activists and women's organisations.
