Its goals are to protect the interests of American physicians, advance public health, and support the growth of medical science. to cooperatively publish and distribute a newly-developed electronic reference library Electronic Reference Library (ERL) is a client to server approach to networking CD-ROM and magnetic databases. It enables access from Macs and UNIX machines. At present, there are only UNIX clients for workstations running Solaris 2. for medical service providers. The new PC-based product, known as CodeManager, simplifies and speeds the coding process of procedures and diagnoses for health insurance claim forms. It utilizes cross-reference linking techniques in a Folio Infobase and searches the three main coding systems used in processing health insurance. One of these systems, Physician's Current Procedural Terminology Physician's Current Procedural Terminology, n. pr a comprehensive system of classification developed and maintained by the American Medical Association; lists descriptive terms and identifies codes for reporting medical procedures and services. (CPT), is developed and maintained by the AMA (Automatic Message Accounting) The recording and reporting of telephone calls within a telephone system. It includes the calling and called parties and start and stop times of the call. . The AMA annually sells and distributes hundreds of thousands of paper-based volumes of their CPT codes. After two years of evaluating various electronic publishers, the AMA chose Ethika for its technical superiority and its marketing expertise, and CodeManager '97 will be featured in their latest product catalog. Commenting on the decision, Jane Piro, AMA Director of Product Development, said "CodeManager is exactly what our customers have been asking for. This software is very easy to use. It will make it possible to search through an enormous database of codes and find the right one in seconds. We expect it to become a major seller over the next few years." S.
