Ester-based TPU grades.

Four thermoplastic polyurethanes have been introduced by the company, including Desmopan grades DP 3055D, DP 3059D, DP 3065D and DP 3072D. They are based on esters and have been custom-made for injection molding. The plasticizer-free products, which span hardnesses ranging from 55 to 72 durometer D, replace the TPU grades Desmopan 355, 356, 359, 365 and 372. Potential application areas include technical injection molded items, shoe soles and heels, ski boot shells, rollers, castor coatings and gear knobs in cars. Depending on application, design and component type, the TPU products are said to be 50% more abrasion-resistant than the previous grades. The fact that the melt solidifies faster is said to be particularly beneficial in processing, as it leads to shorter cooling and cycle times, thus increasing productivity and cost-efficiency. Other benefits are said to include excellent resistance to hydrolysis, good low temperature flexibility and chemical resistance to oils, greases and various solvents, according to the manufacturer.
