Alone, primary sources and sources affiliated with the subject of this article are not sufficient for an accurate encyclopedia article.  today announced that the National Technological Park (NTP (Network Time Protocol) A TCP/IP protocol used to synchronize the real time clock in computers, network devices and other electronic equipment that is time sensitive. It is also used to maintain the correct time in NTP-based wall and desk clocks. ) in Limerick is to become Ireland's First Digital Park and will be known as E-Park.

E-Park differs from any existing technology or industrial park in Ireland because companies at the park will have access for the first time, to a wide range of broadband telecommunications services through Esat Telecom's fiber optic network.

The development of E-Park and the availability of a portfolio of broadband applications will make NTP Ireland's premier technological park and showcase for these new services in live, commercial use.

The new broadband services, some of which have never been commercially available to the corporate market in Ireland before, include integrated voice, data, Internet and video conferencing facilities. Esat Telecom's fiber optic network at NTP will be linked to its national trunk network giving companies in the park local, national and international connectivity for both switched and leased services.

The establishment of Ireland's First Digital Park at NTP also sets out the criteria for other digital park developments in Ireland and Europe. Some of the main criteria and features of E-Park include:

Access to and availability of broadband infrastructure: companies based at NTP will be able to access Esat Telecom's portfolio of integrated services including Business Voice, Managed Bandwidth, Broadband LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  Interconnect, Esat Net, Metro VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  and Business Continuity Service. ATM and Frame Relay will be made available through the network to companies in the park before the end of 1998.

High quality land, buildings and location: National Technological Park is a riverside parkland location which offers a range of flexible enterprise accommodation options including serviced site purchase, lease of hi-spec office accommodation, incubator facilities and progression to second stage enterprise accommodation. NTP is just 30 minutes drive from Shannon International Airport and on all national road and rail links.

Digital Incubator: the Innovation Center at the Park is engineered as a state-of-the-art location for high technology focused incubation centers for start-up companies. The Center will be linked to the fiber optic network giving start-up companies access to Esat Telecom's Integrator portfolio of services with local, national and international connectivity.

Skills availability and linkages to education and R&D: In common with major Science &Technology Park developments across the world, active linkages to Third Level entities are at the heart of the NTP development with the University of Limerick The university is located along the River Shannon, on a 200 acre (0.8 km²) site in the 600 acre (2.4 km²) National Technological Park at Plassey, 5 km from Limerick city centre. The university has currently in excess of 11,000 full-time undergraduate students and 1,500 part-time students.  Campus, one of Europe's foremost technological universities with strong links with US universities such as Stanford, MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology  and Cornell. NTP has developed a series of linkage programs and structures with the University and local Limerick Institute of Technology A Regional Technical College was planned for Limerick along with the other colleges in the 1960s however when NIHE, Limerick, was announced the plans were dropped and instead Limerick College of Art, Commerce and Technology (Limerick CoACT) developed in an  (LIT).

Multimedia Cluster: NTP and the Campus have built up a strong cluster of IT-intensive, multimedia and "content" companies such as Gartner Learing (CBT (Computer-Based Training) Using the computer for training and instruction. CBT programs are called "courseware" and provide interactive training sessions for all disciplines.  materials), Blue Watch (financial services databases), Into White (multimedia consultancy), ICII ICII Information Cultures and Information Interests (UNESCO conference)  (Internet training) and W3 Services (web design).
