Ernst & Young Reunites Family Members During Holiday Season; Firm's Fourth Annual 'Holi-Conferencing' Program Brings Employees Together with Long-Distance Relatives.

Business Editors

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 2000

Ernst & Young announced that its fourth annual "Holi-Conferencing" program, which reunites the firm's employees with far away relatives, begins this week.

The program, which uses state-of-the-art video conferencing See videoconferencing.

equipment, allows firm employees to participate in a virtual visit of up to 30 minutes with family members they will not be able to see in person during the holiday season. Sessions are coordinated in 62 cities across the U.S., as well as major cities in 10 countries worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore.

"Ernst & Young recognizes that the way many families are spread across the globe in this highly mobile society often keeps them from being able to see each other, and during the holidays the distance is felt much more acutely," said Jim Freer, Ernst & Young's vice chairman of human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees.  for the Americas. "We hope our `Holi-Conferencing' program will continue to offer employees a unique way to spend time with friends and family."

The Ernst & Young "Holi-Conferencing" program has grown in popularity since it was established four years ago. The firm expects a tremendous turnout this year - one that will assist in bridging the gap between Ernst & Young employees and their distant friends and families, a move that further demonstrates the firm's commitment to its employees - its most valuable asset.

"Last year I was able to use Ernst & Young's `holi-conferencing' program to hold a three-way call with my family members in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia," said Eydie Sum, a Manager in Ernst & Young's Information Systems Assurance and Advisory Services advisory services
