Ernestine Stodelle (1912-2008).Ernestine Stodelle (1912-2008) Ernestine Stodelle, who served dance in an amazing variety of facets, died in January in California. In her teens, she moved to New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois but grew up in Chicago, Illinois; she was a descendant of Pilgrim William Brewster and Simon James Humphrey. and Charles Weidman Charles Edward Weidman, Jr. (1901 in Lincoln, Nebraska-1975) was a modern dancer, choreographer and teacher. He studied and performed with Denishawn before leaving to form the Humphrey-Weidman school and company with Doris Humphrey and Pauline Lawrence. . Although poetic in demeanor, she was a strong dancer who soon became an ideal partner for the young Jose Limon. As her career took shape, she changed her name from Henoch to Stodelle and in 1935 left to tour Europe. She married Russian theater director Theodore Komisarjevsky. Upon returning to the U.S., she opened her own New York studio. She soon relocated to Connecticut, where she taught for nearly 50 years and was often asked to set Humphrey's works. Stodelle was a perceptive dance writer. In addition to reviewing for The New Haven Register The New Haven Register is a daily newspaper published in New Haven, Connecticut. It is the second largest newspaper in Connecticut, behind The Hartford Courant. It is owned by the Journal Register Company in Yardley, Pennsylvania. and teaching criticism at New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896. It comprises 13 schools and colleges, maintaining 4 main centers (including the Medical Center) in the city, as well as the , she produced two books. One of them, Deep Song, revealed that although faithful to her Humphrey training, she had a profound understanding of the Graham aesthetic. After Komisarjevsky died in 1954, she married noted journalist John R. Chamberlain.
