Ericsson to deliver $58 Million GPRS system to Orange in UK to provide new mobile Internet services.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 23, 2000

Ericsson (Nasdaq:ERICY) and Orange have signed a contract for the delivery of a GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations.  (General Packet Radio Service) system, including the IP-based core network infrastructure and new terminal devices.

The contract is valued at $58 million.

The contract represents the first time Ericsson is supplying Orange with infrastructure equipment in the UK. The new packet-based network is planned to go into service at the end of this year.
