Ericsson signs strategic SDH contracts in China.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 1997--Ericsson has signed two strategic SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) The European counterpart to SONET. See SONET.

SDH - Synchronous Digital Hierarchy
 contracts, laying the foundation for deployment of multimedia services, in the provinces of Shandong and Zhejiang in the eastern region of China.

The first contract that has been signed with Shandong Post & Telecommunication Administration, includes transport network solutions. This SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (communications, standard) Synchronous Digital Hierarchy - (SDH) An international digital telecommunications network hierarchy which standardises transmission around the bit rate of 51.84 megabits per second, which is also called STS-1. ) contract is a breakthrough for Ericsson's fiber solutions in the Shangdong province, which has a population of 88 million people.

This contract also signifies the first deliveries of our Infocom solutions to the Shangdong province," says Sven Stern, General Manager of Ericsson's Shandong office.

The second contract was signed with the Ningbo Telecommunication Bureau for deliveries of SDH transport network solutions enabling services at up 2.5 Gbps. The contract also includes Operation & Maintenance systems to the Ningbo city region, in the Zhejiang province.

Deliveries for both contracts will begin in April and are expected to be up and running by the end of 1997.
