Ericsson signs $60 million AXE contract in Thailand.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 1996--Ericsson has signed a contract with Thai Telephone & Telecommunication Public Co., Ltd. (TT&T) Thailand for the supply of AXE (An X Editor) A text editor used with the X Window system. By adding widgets, aXe can be customized by the user.

 switching equipment, to be implemented in the provinces outside Bangkok Bangkok (băng`kŏk'), Thai Krung Thep, city (1990 pop. 8,538,610), capital of Thailand and of Bangkok prov., SW Thailand, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River, near the Gulf of Thailand.  in Thailand. Valued at approximately $60 million, the contract also includes power systems, installations and training.

The contract is a part of the TT&T provincial project which aims at improving the telecommunication services in the provinces outside Bangkok. Ericsson has supplied AXE switching equipment to the TT&T project since 1994. To date, Ericsson has installed more than 1 million AXE lines in Thailand.

TT&T is a private operator of local public networks. TT&T has a license from the Telephone Organization of Thailand to operate public networks in the country.
