Ericsson receives record $30 million D-AMPS/AMPS order in Ukraine.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 28, 1996--Ericsson has been awarded a major order for a fixed D-AMPS/AMPS cellular communications network The transmission channels interconnecting all client and server stations as well as all supporting hardware and software.  by JV Digital Cellular Communications of Ukraine Ltd (JV DCCU DCCU Dell Client Configuration Utility

). The order, valued at $30 million, is the largest order ever for any digital wireless system in Ukraine. The order covers installation of a fixed cellular communications network in the cities Kiev, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Charkiv, Odessa and the peninsular Krim.

This fixed cellular network will use the same equipment as other wireless networks, a switch and RBS RBS Royal Bank of Scotland

 884 base stations. This solution offers much better functionality in the phone service, including fax and data communication, with an additional significant advantage, it is much more rapidly implemented, since there are no wires.

Currently there are over 65 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide. Over 4 million of these subscribers are already using D-AMPS (Digital-Advanced Mobile Phone Service) The second generation of TDMA. See IS-136.  and all analog AMPS systems have the potential of migrating to digital D-AMPS in the future. Ericsson's networks support over 24 million of these D-AMPS/AMPS subscribers worldwide.
