Ericsson receives multi-million dollar Intelligent Network order from Concert.STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996-- Ericsson Ltd announced today that it has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by Concert, the British Telecom The telephone and communications carrier that provides services in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It used to be a division of the British Post Office, but was privatized in 1984 under Margaret Thatcher's administration. and MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device. (2) (Microwave Communications Inc. joint venture company, for the supply of new Intelligent Network Service Creation Environment System and software development on the existing AXE digital switching equipment. The Ericsson Intelligent Network system will enable Concert to initialise (programming) initialise - To give a variable its first value. This may be done automatically by some languages or it may require explicit code by the programmer. Some languages allow initialisation to be combined with variable definition, e.g. and offer new advanced network services to its customers within very short timescales. Under the terms of the contract, Ericsson will also be enhancing the existing AXE digital switching equipment to provide the next generation of switching functionality. Ericsson's AXE international switching equipment is currently installed at Concert's Global Switching Centres in London, New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of , Frankfurt and Sydney to manage the traffic of multinational accounts. According to Bob Rouse, senior vice president of Network Services for Concert, "Ericsson has been heavily involved in the Concert network since its conception. This contract marks a significant step forward in our relationship. Ericsson's experience in both public networks and private communications systems enabled us to combine advanced Intelligent Network functionality with many of the user interfaces associated with current PABX (Private Automatic Branch eXchange) Same as PBX.
