Ericsson receives first D-AMPS AMPS order in Uzbekistan, Russian Federation.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1996--Ericsson has signed a contract for the first D-AMPS/AMPS wireless communications wireless communications

System using radio-frequency, infrared, microwave, or other types of electromagnetic or acoustic waves in place of wires, cables, or fibre optics to transmit signals or data.
 system in Uzbekistan with Rubicon Wireless Communications, a privately-owned operator in the region.

The contract is valued at approximately $6 million, and the system will provide mobile telephone service in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to approximately 2,5 million inhabitants

The order includes a Mobile Switching center and Ericsson's RBS RBS Royal Bank of Scotland
RBS Role Based Security
RBS Rollback Segment
RBS Rare Book School (University of Virginia)
RBS Rural Business Cooperative Service
RBS Ribosome Binding Site (genetics) 
 882 and RBS 884 base stations. The system will initially provide capacity for 1,500 subscribers. The first test call on the system is scheduled for June 1996, with commercial operation planned for August 1996.

Ericsson's networks support over 18 million of these D-AMPS/AMPS subscribers worldwide.
