Ericsson launches multi-lingual GH 398 phone for Chinese language markets.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 1996--Ericsson has tailored the award-winning technology of its flagship GH388 digital mobile phone to create a truly personal model for use in markets where Chinese is widely spoken. With the new GH398, users can choose whether the display menu appears in English, Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese. The phone also features an improved range of easy-to-use functions to allow users to customize the phone exactly according to according to

The GH398 includes a new full graphic display which adapts digit size according to the length of the entered phone number for maximum readability. The GH398 will be launched at a telecommunications exhibition in Beijing, China on November 5, 1996 and will be available for purchase throughout the Asia Pacific region from early 1997.

The phone also features a new Customizing option which enables users to create their own screen display, which shows only the menus they need. Alternatively, there are two default menu options: a reduced six menu display or an extended, full menu display. The user can personalize per·son·al·ize

The GH398 is sleek and compact, measuring only 23mm deep and weighing just 170g with a Light battery. It also incorporates all the features which have made the GH388 one of the most advanced phones available, including up to 80 hours standby time or 275 minutes talk time with a high capacity battery.

When connected to a computer and compatible modem, the GH398 is capable of fax and data transfer speeds of up to 9600bps. Other features include a 99-position Phone Book, in addition to SIM-card data storage capabilities, and a full range of facilities which allow users to benefit from services provided by network operators, such as Calling Line Identification (CLI (1) (Call Level Interface) A database programming interface from the SQL Access Group (SAG), an SQL membership organization. SAG's CLI is an attempt to standardize the SQL language for database access. ) and Alternate Line Service Alternate Line service is a GSM feature for supporting two different phone numbers on the same mobile device.
