Ericsson and Lockheed Martin join forces in the Airborne Early Warning and Control area.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1996--Ericsson Microwave Systems of Sweden and Lockheed Martin Ocean, Radar and Sensor Systems have teamed to offer advanced Airborne Early Warning and Control Air surveillance and control provided by airborne early warning aircraft which are equipped with search and height-finding radar and communications equipment for controlling weapon systems. The Ericsson Erieye system in combination with Lockheed Martin's C-130 Hercules has attracted great international interest. Currently discussions are ongoing with a number of countries.

The combination of Lockheed Martin and Ericsson offers over 40 years of AEW radar experience including advanced active phased-array radar technology.

The Erieye radar, developed by Ericsson, is a long-range high-performance AEW radar that is designed to be incorporated in a variety of military and civilian aircraft. It features a dorsal- mounted, active phased-array antenna system operating at S-band. The system is currently being incorporated on the Saab 340B aircraft for use by the Swedish Air Force The Swedish Air Force (Swedish: Flygvapnet, literally "The Flight Weapon") is the air force branch of the Swedish Armed Forces, the military of Sweden. The APS-145 is the latest in a series of AEW radars developed by Lockheed Martin and is currently in production for the U.S. Navy on the E-2C E-2C Hawkeye; Navy Airborne Warning and Control System Aircraft  aircraft. The system is a long-range, all-weather, 360 degree radar operating at UHF. The system has also been adapted to operate on both the P-3C and the C-130 aircraft.
