Ericsson To Develop RFIC'S Using TriQuint Semiconductor Process Technology.


STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 1997--Ericsson announced that it has signed an agreement to develop 800 to 2,500 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. Under the agreement, Ericsson Components will purchase manufactured wafers from TriQuint containing Ericsson's proprietary designs. The prime focus of this activity is to establish an Ericsson internal strategic resource of GaAs RFIC's to compliment other RFIC's products developed, based on Ericsson Components internally developed processes. The high efficiency of GaAs makes it the optimal choice for power amplifiers today. The combination of technology now enables Ericsson Components to offer a full range of RF ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  components that represent the crucial functions necessary to maintain mobile telephony global leadership. The agreement also establishes the framework under which TriQuint can request the right to market the Ericsson designs. Further, it establishes the guidelines for the joint development by TriQuint and Ericsson Components of future products.
