ErgoTech to Release Java SECS/GEM: Semiconductor Standard for Equipment Control and Integration.

6 LOS ALAMOS Los Alamos (lôs ăl`əmōs', lŏs), uninc. town (1990 pop. 11,455), seat of Los Alamos co., N central N.Mex. It is on a long mesa extending from the Jemez Mts. The U.S. , N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1999--

ErgoTech Systems, Inc., supplier of Java(tm) component software for manufacturing automation and equipment retrofit solutions, announces the first public pre-release of SEMI's SECS protocol written entirely in the Java language. 6 The product is currently being tested at a number of locations, and there is worldwide interest in the product from semiconductor fabs and equipment builders. The first full release is expected in May and will include the HSMS HSMS Hazardous Substance Management System
HSMS Hierarchical Storage Management System
HSMS High Speed Messaging Service (semiconductor equipment communications standard; associated with GEM/SECS)
HSMS Hierarchical Storage Management Software
protocol and SECS II messages. 6 Jim Redman James Arthur Redman MBE (born August 11, 1931 in London, England) is a six-time World Champion motorcycle road racer.

As a young man, he emigrated to Zimbabwe, then known as Rhodesia, where he began his racing career. He earned a factory ride with Honda for the 1960 season.
, President of ErgoTech, commented, "Java is becoming the de facto [Latin, In fact.] In fact, in deed, actually.

language for semiconductor integration. SECS support in Java allows fabs to leverage the communication capabilities of existing equipment while moving to thin-client solutions." 6 ErgoTech's pure Java Refers to initiatives from Sun that specify 100% compliance with its Java specification. The goal is to maintain a consistent, single interface for Java so that all Java Virtual Machines can run all Java programs. See Holy Grail.  HSMS/SECS II implementation provides the ability to control equipment directly from a Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  or through client or server based Refers to hardware or software that runs in the server. Contrast with client based.  Java applications. Preliminary data shows excellent performance, including in excess of 1000 messages/second for a data request/response (S1F3/S1F4). ErgoTech supports the full HSMS specification, including the "General Session" allowing multiple sessions though one TCP/IP port. The software also has several techniques to compensate for Y2K problems, if required. 6 Future offerings from ErgoTech will include a GEM implementation, entirely in Java, built on the existing SECS II layer and the RS232 SECS I protocol using the Java COMMAPI native interface. The protocol layer can be selected at runtime and will allow for easy creation of SECSI/HSMS protocol conversions. This conversion layer forms a part of ErgoTech's software retrofit solutions for semiconductor equipment.
