Equistar Starts Up HDPE Expansion.Late last month, Houston-based Equistar Chemicals, LP, started up a 480-million-lb expansion at its Alathon HDPE HDPE abbr. high-density polyethylene plant in Matagorda, Texas Matagorda is an unincorporated community in Matagorda County, Texas (USA). It had a population of approximately 710 in 2000. Matagorda is at the end of Highway 60 and beginning of FM 2031, which runs across the Intracoastal Waterway via a swing bridge. .
