BUS UPGRADES

Michigan-based Champion Bus has announced several new product enhancements for its Crusader and Challenger model shuttle and paratransit buses. Improvements include increased shoulder room on both models plus more standardization of many components. The new standardization program will help reduce cost and improve quality.

In addition, Champion is changing the wall angle on the Challenger by 4 degrees, increasing passenger egress room while contributing to higher quality standards.

MIDSIZE BUS

Terra Transit manufactures midsize buses, 14- to 20-passenger, with a continuous welded steel cage. Its latest design is an innovative under-floor lift that does not require a dedicated door or unsightly lift inside which takes up valuable space and can rattle. The user-friendly under-floor lift slides out quietly from a sealed compartment under the top step and above the Ford frame. This protects the lift from road and weather elements.

BUS IMPROVEMENTS

ElDorado National has made some exciting improvements in their Aero Cutaway product line. A redesigned wall structure had increased the side passenger viewing area by nearly 70%. The new windows are 6[inches] higher and 5-1/2[inches] wider than the previous standard windows. In addition, independent testing that was conducted on the newly designed window pillar area indicated more than a 50% increase in load-bearing strength.

ODOR ELIMINATOR

X-O Odor Whacker (odor eliminator/air freshener) and X-O Odor Whacker-Dirt Attacker (odor eliminator/air freshener/general purpose cleaner) solve odor and cleaning problems in seconds without the use of harsh chemicals. In ready-to-use sprayers and concentrated form, X-O natural organic products are biodegradable, nontoxic, nonflammable and safe on fabrics.

WIRE CATS

Milcare introduces a new line of wire products that give healthcare customers a wide range of choices. From simple utility carts to sophisticated supply delivery carts to specialty designs such as suture carts, the Milcare line offers solutions for every healthcare application. In addition, the product line offers wire and plastic shelving, including a space-saving movable aisle system with an overhead track.

Wire diameters of shelf trusses exceed the industry standard, so shelves resist deflection even under heavy loads. OSHPD-approved seismic shelving does not require additional bracing. Every Milcare wire product is backed by a 5-year warranty.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNAGE

SCOTT Sign Systems, Inc., has expanded its line of architectural sign systems to include signage specifically designed for the assisted living industry. Room numbers, directionals and specialized pictograms assist residents in wayfinding throughout the facility. ADA-compliant room numbers have been designed to accommodate a photo behind the protective faceplate along with a changeable insert area for nameplate display.

LITTER CONTAINER

CSL, Inc. Environmental Products offers the Litter-Mate trash receptacle as a companion to its Smokers' Outpost maintenance-free outdoor smoking receptacle. The 21-gallon Litter-Mate, with its contemporary appearance, coordinates with the Smokers' Outpost, but can also be used alone. It is fire safe and has an easy-snap lid.

The Smokers' Outpost is an oxygen-restricting chamber that accepts thousands of discarded cigarette butts, while keeping them out of view in a galvanized liner.

AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM

The HEPAtech[TM] 250 Air Purification System quietly removes particles as small as 0.1 microns, including smoke, dust, pollen and virtually all airborne allergens. Built by Hunter Fan, this model carries a 5-year motor warranty and is distributed to the medical industry by Battle Creek Equipment Co.

RESIDENT-ROOM PHONES

ALCO Sales & Service Co., introduces a new line of phones that conveniently mount to the bed rail for easy patient/resident use. These high-impact polystyrene phones are hearing aid compatible, have a volume control, 20-foot cord and night light.

Along with bed rail phones, ALCO also carries desk and wall-mountable patient phones and pillow speakers.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT WASHER

Mid-State Stainless, Inc., offers Aqua Phase, a high-quality, automatic line of medical washers. With unique adaptations for effectively washing wheelchairs, Aqua Phase is a sanitizer for a wide range of hard-to-clean equipment, also including carts, stands, tanks and more. The washers' innovative, stainless steel, dynamic fluid-distribution system and high-grade components lead to long-lasting, trouble-free operation. With varying features and price levels, Aqua Phase's automated cleaning and disinfection application systems can save more than 60% of labor costs.

COMMERCIAL VENTILATORS

AMCA-certified as 59% quieter, Broan's new LoSone Select[R]line has been designed to be reliable, easy to install and inconspicuous - features demanded by specifying engineers, architects and contractors.

Each model is engineered with balanced blower wheels, and most are lined with sound-absorbing acoustic insulation to reduce noise. Low-rpm motors are permanently lubricated for continuous or intermittent operation, with specially designed resilient motor mounts that prevent vibration and further reduce noise.

The new Select line includes units with exhaust capabilities from 100 to 3,500 CFM for use in a variety of applications. The basic 100- to 300-CFM units are designed with round duct conductors that are easily compatible with available ductwork. The 400-CFM and larger units are equipped with rectangular duct connectors; however, accessory transitions are available to allow the use of round ductwork. All duct connectors are outfitted with quiet, automatic back-draft dampers, and all units are designed for horizontal, vertical or in-line ducting.

ALL-PURPOSE STOOLS

All-Purpose Stools, Models 747 and 750 from Bailey Manufacturing, can be used in many areas of the long-term care facility, including physical and occupational therapy departments, the beauty shop or any area where easily movable seating is required. They glide in all directions on 3[inches] ball bearing casters. Bailey All-Purpose Stools are available in 26 decorator colors.

Model 747 has a luxurious round padded seat that can be adjusted up or down with a simple touch of a lever. The compact Model 750 has a square seat and requires only 21" of floor space.

HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATORS

United Air Specialists, Inc., has the fresh-air solution to indoor air quality problems. FRESH-X-CHANGER[R]Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) conserve energy while maintaining a healthy environment.

Employees and residents no longer have to breathe in odors and contaminants. FRESH-X-CHANGER HRVs exhaust stale, unsafe air and deliver fresh, clean outdoor air. An adequate supply of fresh air is maintained, while 60 to 90% of the energy normally lost through ventilator exhaust is recovered. The patented aluminum heat exchange core transfers energy in the exhaust air to the incoming fresh air while its cross-flow design eliminates contamination of incoming fresh air.

ROOM DEODORIZING SYSTEM

The Vaportronic from Vaportek, Inc., is a deodorizing system that utilizes a special, nonwoven fiber element to dispense an odor-neutralizing dry vapor. By inserting from one to five aroma elements in the Vaportronic's bays, the desired rate of output can easily be achieved. Impregnated with a proprietary blend of nontoxic natural oils, the elements are available in several varieties and are effective for at least 30 days.

An adjustable, electronic control provides pulsing fan operation, factory-set for one-minute "on/off" intervals. The "off" cycle can be manually set for 1 to 30 minutes. Virtually silent, the unit's fan draws air over the aroma elements and releases it as a dry vapor.

The unit's stylish design and off-white color complement any decor. Designed to be wall-mounted or freestanding, a discreet pin-lock mechanism discourages tampering.

ROOFING SYSTEMS

Stevens Roofing Systems, manufacturer of hot-air-welded, TPO-based, single-ply roofing systems, has announced the expansion of its Web site. The new pages are specifically designed as an international resource for researching the impact of white reflective roofing on the energy efficiency of a commercial building.

The easy-to-navigate Web site provides in-depth information on energy-efficient roofing with up-to-date information on key issues for the roofing industry, such as the EPA Energy Star[R] Roof Products Program, ASTM testing standards and more. In addition, the Web site has a variety of charts and graphs that compare energy costs associated with black, white and gray roofing materials. LIGHTWEIGHT VACUUM CLEANER 

ALTO Clarke Technology introduces a heavy-duty performance vacuum in a lightweight machine. The 530 has all-metal, rugged construction with a die-cast aluminum impeller. The low-profile, 12-inch cleaning path reaches under furniture, while the vacuum's large rear wheels glide over any surface. The 530 can be adjusted to any height requirement.

The 530 Vacuum comes with a 50-ft, grounded three-wire cable and a standard cloth bag. Disposable paper bags are also available.

FLOOR SCRUBBER/CARPET EXTRACTORS

Windsor Industries introduces AXCESS[TM], a walk-behind floor scrubber made for cleaning small areas fast and efficiently. The brush-assist propelling system with variable speed control reduces operator fatigue and increases the confidence of inexperienced operators. The hands-free spin on/off brush/pad system is safe and easy to use. A two-switch control panel and an adjustable squeegee decrease training time and costs while increasing productivity.

The CLIPPER[TM] 12, ADMIRAL[TM] 8 and CADET[TM] 7 are Windsor's latest self-contained, simple-to-operate carpet extractors.

The fingertip controls are simple to use, and there are no external hoses to make emptying and filling confusing. The CLIPPER 12, ADMIRAL 8 and CADET 7 are also equipped with quick-connect ports for attaching accessories.

EPOXY FLOOR RESURFACER

POUR-N-WALK[TM] from Garon Products is an easily applied, self-leveling, epoxy-strength floor resurfacer. The 100% solids formula provides a smooth, glossy, uniform surface that covers spalled and damaged concrete floors. POUR-N-WALK is so dense that it is impervious to dirt and bacteria and can withstand the impact and thermal shock of high traffic. Mix, pour and finish with a notched squeegee - no topcoat needed.

PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE CATALOG

Maintenance, Inc., has released the newest edition of its Pavement Maintenance Products Catalog (No. 99), offering a wide selection of asphalt and concrete coatings, crack sealants, line striping, tools, safety supplies and more. For maintaining parking lots, driveways, recreational areas, etc., the catalog is a useful tool for planning current projects or budgeting future needs.

SPOT CLEANING KIT

The spotZAPPER[TM] Cleaning Kit from Host\Racine Industries, Inc., includes a patented two-sided brush design that "zaps" ugly spots in seconds, removing them permanently from almost any type of carpet. Along with the brush, the cleaning kit includes a 2-lb. ZAPPER Pak of Host Cleaner and an 8-oz. bottle of Spot Remover. A single-sided black brush for low-pile carpet only is also available. All items fit in the handheld kit for transport on cleaning carts.

BURNISHING PAD FOR FLOORS

The 3M 3600 Eraser Burnishing Pad is the newest product of the hard floor maintenance system from 3M Commercial Care. Ideal for heavy-traffic floors, the pad removes black marks and quickly restores floors with a high-gloss shine. It is durable, resists tearing, generates very little dust and can be used on all types of ultra-high-speed burnishers, with excellent results on 3M floor finishes. 3M Cornerstone Sealer/Finish seals and provides a gloss on hard-to-maintain stone finishes such as terrazzo, concrete and brick.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL VACUUM

The new HOST[TM] extractorVAC[TM] Liberator[TM] is ideal for daily, deep vacuuming, pile lifting, spot removal and area and maintenance cleaning of carpeted facilities.

Deep, soil-extraction vacuuming is the result of a patented, dual brush/vacuum intake construction, which features two counter-rotating 4[inches]-diameter brushes. The brushes sweep into the carpet pile and lift dirt directly into the vacuum intake. These revolving brushes propel the machine, making the Liberator ideal for vacuuming long hallways, lobbies and large, open areas.

FABRIC CLEANING CONCENTRATE

CFR introduces Perform-All, a highly concentrated, neutral pH, water-based cleaner. It can be used on natural and synthetic fabrics and carpeting. It works well on upholstery, floors, walls and hard surfaces.

The cleaning formula is based upon state-of-the-art textile surfactant chemistry and contains no solvents. Effective in hot or cold water, Perform-All will not build up alkaline residue. It is WOOLSAFE approved and meets the requirements for WOOLSAFE certification.
