Equinox announces PCI Bus Serial I/O.SUNRISE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1995--Equinox Systems Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on :EQNX) Monday announced several new additions to its high performance SuperSerial I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output. I/O - Input/Output product family for use in PCI bus servers. The first product announced is an 8-port board, the SST-8P, with a list price of $695. Next, are expandable I/O subsystems starting with a 64-port host controller board, the SST-64P, priced at $795 list, or a 128-port host controller board, the SST-128P, with a list price of $1,095. SuperSerial Port Modules (8-ports for $495 or 16-ports for $795) connect to the host controller board to complete the I/O subsystem. Remote Access versions include support for Novell's NetWare Connect, Microsoft Windows NT, and Citrix. All are scheduled to ship in late September. "We're very proud to be leading the industry with our SuperSerial PCI products," said Bill Dambrackas, founder and president of Equinox. "The very low CPU CPU in full central processing unit Principal component of a digital computer, composed of a control unit, an instruction-decoding unit, and an arithmetic-logic unit. burden and maximum throughput of our SuperSerial Technology has been proven by independent testing and now it's coupled with PCI to meet the demands of the new generation of multi-user and remote access servers." Recently, Equinox products compared very favorably across all categories in an independent comparison conducted by SCO (The SCO Group, Lindon, UT, www.sco.com) A leading vendor of Unix operating systems for the x86 platform. SCO had also offered Linux, but abandoned the line in the spring of 2003. The SCO Group is the combination of two companies: Utah-based Caldera, Inc. WORLD Labs. While sending data at full speed on all ports, their benchmark testing revealed that Equinox used far less host CPU time than all competitors. All Equinox SuperSerial I/O products are based on a custom processor developed by Equinox specifically for serial communications. This processor off-loads communications processing from the host CPU while driving maximum speeds across multiple serial ports. Other Equinox features include simplified installation and support through dynamic configuration and on-line diagnostics, full modem control, multi-strike surge protection, and an industry-leading 5-year warranty. Equinox, headquartered in Sunrise, designs and markets I/O communications products for remote access and multi-user computer systems. The products are sold through a worldwide network of distributors and VARs. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and customers include AT&T, Unisys and recently, Hewlett-Packard selected Equinox to provide serial I/O subsystems in HP 9000 computer systems.
