This project will eventually extend to the interconnection with the Democratic Republic of Congo which will provide further downstream benefits to all users. ZESCO and Equinox are expected to finalize the connection agreement and power supply contract by July 2005. In 2003 ZESCO was contracted to construct a 330kV transmission line from Luano on the Copperbelt to the Kansanshi mine near Solwezi. The 180 km project was successfully commissioned in November 2004 after a 10 months construction period, evidencing ZESCO's capacity to undertake large scale power supply projects.
