from multinational companies about their current and future networking plans.

The survey found that multinational companies believe there will be growth in outsourcing and managed services An umbrella term for third-party monitoring and maintaining of computers, networks and software. The actual equipment may be inhouse or at the third-party's facilities, but the "managed" implies an ongoing effort; for example, making sure the equipment is running at a certain quality  implementation, and that telecommunications providers could be the greatest beneficiaries of this uptake. Telecommunications suppliers were also perceived as being stronger managers of infrastructure services than systems integrators. Regarding network growth over the next three years, EVUA members feel that the strongest growth will be in mobile voice/data, and fixed data, and that IP VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  will be the "workhorse" of the network.

"Multinational companies recognize Equant's breadth of communications services offerings and support," said Philippe Koebel, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Equant. "The results of this survey reflect our strengths in global communications infrastructure solutions, our proven outsourcing capabilities, and further underscore our transformation to a services company."

In 2004, Equant has introduced new offer in line with the key findings of this survey, such as a new IP VPN framework, mobile solution suite and managed messaging service, and experienced 50 percent growth in VoIP demand. The company also continued its expansion into emerging markets such as China and India.
