) - Epson Toyocom announced on Oct. 11 commercialization of the XV-8000CB high-precision gyro sensor A device that measures or detects a real-world condition, such as motion, heat or light and converts the condition into an analog or digital representation. An optical sensor detects the intensity or brightness of light, or the intensity of red, green and blue for color systems.  with an ultra-compact and ultra-thin design that enables greater system performance.

Advertised as the smallest of its sort, the XV-8000CB is intended for 'dead reckoning', the positioning method used in car navigation See GPS.  systems. The company believe that the unit will become a core product in its sensing device business.

The XV-8000CB leverages the stability of crystal-based gyro elements along with the company's original crystal microprocessing technology, low-power analog circuit analog circuit, electronic circuit that operates with currents and voltages that vary continuously with time and have no abrupt transitions between levels. Generally speaking, analog circuits are contrasted with digital circuits, which function as though currents or  technology, and packaging technology to achieve a gyro sensor that is both highly accurate and the world's smallest at just 5.0 x 3.2 x 1.3 mm. In addition, its unique device structure is designed for resistance to shock and vibration.

Samples will begin shipping in December 2006.
