) - Seiko Epson Seiko Epson Corporation (セイコーエプソン株式会社   released a new voice guidance audio decoder chip for embedded applications on August 3.

The S1V30300 is a companion chip that enables data created with Epson's exclusive free PC tool for voice data recording and compression - VoiceText MISAKI Epson Version - to be received from a host, decoded, and output via an integral D/A converter (Digital/Analog converter) A device that converts digital code into analog signals. The most common applications are for generating sound and video. The D/A converter may be contained on a single chip or can be one circuit within a chip. Contrast with A/D converter. .

Since it uses a message protocol based on a clock synchronous serial interface, the chip can be easily integrated with a wide range of host devices and microcontrollers.

The S1V30300 supports AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) An audio compression technology that is part of the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards. AAC, especially MPEG-4 AAC, provides greater compression and better sound quality than MP3, which also came out of the MPEG standard.  LC as well as ADPCM (Adaptive Differential PCM) A widely used variation of PCM that codes the difference between sample points like differential PCM (DPCM), but can also dynamically switch the coding scale to compensate for variations in amplitude and frequency.  audio codec, enabling the creation of high-sound-quality systems with small data volumes.

Target applications include a wide range of systems requiring voice guidance such as those embedded in home appliances, buildings and office equipment.

A special tool allows users to edit voice guidance messages on a PC, doing away with the need for studio recording and making voice guidance systems easy to develop.
