New Company to Focus on Integrated Solutions for Quartz Devices, LCDs,

Motors & Magnets, PC Cards, and Device Applied Products

To meet the increasingly complex requirements of electronic designers and procurement professionals at system OEMs throughout the Americas, Seiko Epson Seiko Epson Corporation (セイコーエプソン株式会社   Corporation today announced that it has established a new U.S.-based subsidiary company called Epson Electronics America, Inc. This move leverages Seiko Epson's global strength in developing and marketing system-critical, highly-miniaturized electronic components and devices, by devoting resources to component and device sales in a separate company.

EEA assumes immediate management of all OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  sales, marketing, and support activities in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies.  formerly managed within Epson America, Inc. -- Seiko Epson's U.S. subsidiary best known for its award-winning families of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.

In addition, EEA will begin expanding its U.S.-based product design and development of key components and devices in five technology sectors: quartz devices, liquid crystal displays liquid crystal display (LCD)

"Seiko Epson's establishment of EEA as an independent company dedicated to advancing our families of electronic components and devices is part of our global, long-term business strategy to be a worldwide leader in essential technology markets," said Mr. Saburo Kusama, executive vice president, Seiko Epson.

In addition to focusing on leading-edge component design and development, EEA has been organized to meet the evolving needs of OEM procurement professionals. With shorter product lifecycles, the need for enhanced logistics capabilities and supplier flexibility grows. EEA is working with its customers to meet dynamic requirements such as build-to-order, long-range forecasting, and pull/replenishment programs.

"Our OEM customers have a universal need for advanced electronic components and devices that are increasingly smaller, more power efficient, and often designed to meet specific design requirements," said Masamichi Taguchi, president of Epson Electronics America.

"EEA is committed to helping them solve their product design and production issues faster and more effectively than ever before, and to providing significantly enhanced value-added logistics."

Epson Electronics America Products & Technologies

EEA's products and technologies are focused in five strategic markets: quartz devices, LCDs, motors & magnets, PC cards, and device applied technology products. The following are examples of each:

Quartz Devices -- EEA is a leading supplier of quartz devices, including crystals, crystal oscillators (XO, VCXO VCXO Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator ), programmable crystal oscillators, saw resonators, and real time clocks (RTC's). EEA's major markets include the personal computer, networking, and telecommunications markets.

Seiko Epson, the manufacturer of EEA's products, continues to advance the development of energy efficient, low profile, and space saving quartz devices in both through hole and SMT (1) (Surface Mount Technology) See surface mount.

packages. Seiko Epson is the only company in the world that manufactures both the quartz crystals and the IC's required to build their oscillators. This allows Seiko Epson to have complete control over all facets of design and production.

LCDs -- EEA provides LCD modules targeted towards the burgeoning markets for cellular phones, pagers, digital cameras, PDAs and other handheld devices. These modules are designed to be compact and highly energy-efficient to meet the needs of an extremely diverse customer base.

Motors & Magnets -- EEA's line of durable, cost-effective stepper motors, spindle spindle: see spinning.

Device Applied Technology Products -- Products in the device applied technology sector include label makers, thermometers, gear head units, multimeters, and time/date stamp circuitry for cameras. Devices in this sector leverage Seiko Epson's advanced component designs and high density assembly capabilities.

Epson Electronics America, Inc. is a U.S. subsidiary of Japan-based Seiko Epson Corporation, a global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality technology products that meet customer demands for increased functionality, compactness, systems integration, and energy efficiency.
