Enzo Biochem Names Irwin C. Gerson to Its Board of Directors.

Enzo Biochem Inc. (NYSE:ENZ) a leading biotechnology company specializing in gene identification and gene regulation technologies for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, today announced the appointment of Irwin C. Gerson as a member of the Company's Board of Directors.

Mr. Gerson was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of William Douglas McAdams Inc., one of the largest advertising and marketing agencies in the U.S. specializing in pharmaceutical communications to healthcare professionals and the public. Following its sale to the Interpublic Group of Companies, Mr. Gerson became Chairman of Lowe Healthcare Worldwide, a position he held until 1999. In February 2000 he was inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame. He is a Director of ANDRX Corporation, which specializes in proprietary drug delivery technologies, and Cytoclonal Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical drug development company, both NASDAQ-listed companies.

Mr. Gerson holds a B.S. in Pharmacy from Fordham University and an MBA from the NYU School of Business. He has served as Chairman of the Council of Overseers of the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy, and as a Trustee of Long Island University and the Albany College of Pharmacy. He was a lecturer in sales management and pharmaceutical marketing at Columbia College of Pharmacy. He has served on the Boards of a variety of professional, cultural and charity organizations and was a Director of Penn Dixie Industries and Continental Steel Corporation.

Enzo Biochem is engaged in the research, development and manufacture of innovative health care products based on molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques, and in providing diagnostic services to the medical community. The Company's proprietary labeling and detection products for gene sequencing and genetic analysis with approximately 200 patents worldwide are sold to the life science market throughout the world. The Company's therapeutic division is conducting clinical trials for HIV-1-infected patients and for patients infected with hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses.
