Enzo Biochem Issues Statement.

Enzo Biochem, Inc. (NYSE: ENZ) today issued the following statement in regard to recent trading action in the Company's stock:

"Apart from last Tuesday's unspeakable tragedy, and its affect on the market as a whole, Enzo Biochem knows of no reason to account for the recent performance of the Company's common stock. The Company remains strong financially and operationally, and, as scheduled, will in October release results for the fiscal year ended July 31, 2001.

As we have stated previously, the Company continues to believe strongly that the outlook for its many activities remains highly favorable. Enzo Life Sciences continues to produce and supply products at record levels to research laboratories, in addition to developing new, proprietary genomic labeling, hybridization and detection products for the rapidly growing gene chip market. Enzo Labs has continued to operate throughout the emergency to meet all customer needs. None of our employees were injured, nor were any facilities damaged.

At Enzo Therapeutics, activities also continue to progress. Human clinical trials of Enzo's proprietary treatments for hepatitis B and C continue as scheduled. A paper discussing the clinical study of EHT899, Enzo's medicine for treatment of hepatitis B, has been approved for presentation at a professional conference in November. In addition, Phase 1 clinical studies of Enzo's treatment of Crohn's Disease will begin shortly, and the process of securing regulatory approval for expansion of human clinical studies of Enzo's HGTV43 treatment for HIV is also moving ahead.

It might be noted that Enzo Labs has been doing its part in the relief efforts. Medical couriers made multiple trips to relief centers in Manhattan to deliver medical supplies. Our facility on Long Island was made available to the New York Blood Center to process blood donations. At the same time, all laboratory specimens were processed and tested rapidly, and on days when it was difficult to get into Manhattan, senior executives and professional staff drove courier cars to make the vital pickups and deliveries at doctors' offices. Our employees worked multiple shifts to cover for those employees who were unable to get in.
