The coffee-drinking hippie didn't make the cut. Nor did the yoga-going painter. But one Eugene-style character will be part of the latest Bazooka Joe comics cast.

 Cindy Lewis, who loves hiking, volunteering and recycling, is among new characters in the mini cartoon strips that wrap each piece of Bazooka bazooka, in warfare, portable, lightweight metal tube from which rockets are launched, usually operated by two men. It is used by infantry as an antitank weapon and also for attacking pillboxes and bunkers.  bubble gum.

She was among five survivors of 11 potential new characters unveiled by Bazooka this summer. The Topps Co. invited people to "vote out" one of the characters each week by going to the Bazooka Joe Web site.

Besides Cindy Lewis, online voters chose to keep the following:

DJ Chang, who likes spinning records but hates to play top 40.

Kevin Griffin, the awkward, reptile-loving science guy.

Wolfgang Spreckels, the German exchange student who adores rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music. .

Casey McGavin, the tomboy tomboy Psychology A popular term for a girl whose developmental gender-identity/role is discordant with her genotype. Cf Sissy.  who loves bleacher bleach·er
