:EVTN) announced today that the company has begun discussions with Maritime Solutions Inc. to strategize methods in which the two companies will begin marketing their system for the treatment of ballast water to the shipping industry. Currently Maritime Solutions Inc. retains the worldwide distribution rights to market Enviro's Voraxial Separator (VAS vas (vas) pl. va´ sa  [L.] vessel.va´sal

"After the progress which has been made by Maritime Solutions to develop a feasible technology to eliminate the introduction of invasive marine organisms, we felt the time was right for us to look at ways in which we could maximize the long term benefits for both of our companies," said Alberto Di Bella, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Christopher Constantine, President of Maritime Solutions stated, "Current ballast water management practices prescribed by the International Maritime Organization International Maritime Organization (IMO), specialized agency of the United Nations established in 1948, with headquarters in London and 158 member nations. IMO is one of the smallest of the UN agencies.  (IMO "In my opinion." See IMHO and digispeak.

The discharge of ballast water has been identified as a primary mechanism for the introduction of unwanted invasive marine species into territorial waters territorial waters: see waters, territorial.

. Thus, the management and treatment of ballast water to eliminate the undesirable introduction of non-indigenous species of marine organisms is now a growing environmental and economic concern of global proportions. It is estimated that the introduction of the zebra mussel alone, into the waters of the Great Lakes, has caused over 5 billion dollars in damages.

Other concerns now include the introduction of the Chinese mitten crab The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), also known as big binding crab (大閘蟹) and Shanghai hairy crab (上海毛蟹), is a medium-sized burrowing crab found in the coastal estuaries of eastern Asia from  along the West Coast which is threatening California's water distribution system and endangering salmon runs. A further example is the periodic introduction of the pathogenic bacterium, Vibrio vibrio

"I cannot express enough my delight in having the level of experience that the team at Maritime Solutions brings to us," said Albert Di Bella, "I am hopeful that we can build a very strong and long-lasting relationship between us."

Maritime Solutions is led by its President, Christopher P. Constantine and Vice President, Richard E. Fredricks, each with over thirty years experience in the management, operations, marketing, and financing in the international maritime industry. Its Director of Environmental Research, Dr. Jeffrey G. Miner, has 25 years experience in academic research and environmental consulting with emphasis in marine invasive species and their impacts on environments.
