Entertainment destination centers emerging.

In the same way that multiplex cinemas replaced old neighborhood movie theaters and shopping malls replaced free-standing retail stores, a whole new paradigm New Paradigm

In the investing world, a totally new way of doing things that has a huge effect on business.

Notes:
The word "paradigm" is defined as a pattern or model, and it has been used in science to refer to a theoretical framework.
is emerging today in the field of retail entertainment. Finding that it is not enough to offer just a single attraction to today's amusement-hungry public, developers and retailers are banding together to create spectacular new entities: "entertainment destination centers" that use the latest technologies to offer consumers entirely new retail experiences.

America's cities are on the verge On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning) is a play written by Eric Overmyer. It makes extensive use of esoteric language and pop culture references from the late nineteenth century to 1955.  of being reshaped by these development projects. Tomorrow's shopping environment will no longer be a mall anchored by department stores This is a list of department stores. In the case of department store groups the location of the flagship store is given. This list does not include large specialist stores, which sometimes resemble department stores.  and a few movie theaters, but a themed entertainment destination replete with attractions (like aquariums, museums and sports stadiums), a cornucopia cornucopia (kôr'nykō`pēə), in Greek mythology, magnificent horn that filled itself with whatever meat or drink its owner requested.  of restaurants, and retailers who are taking advantage of the latest technologies.

In many instances today, pre-existing designed spaces are completely inadequate for the innovative types of retail tenants that developers are looking for Looking for

. In fact, in many cases, it would require tens of millions of hard-to-come-by dollars to renovate or redesign an existing space in a way that would meet a retailer's needs. To come up with a design that is both affordable and suitable, architects and designers must push their creativity.

We have a great opportunity today to create from scratch a new generation of retail, recreation and entertainment spaces that will shape the way Americans spend their leisure time in the future. Hundreds of "entertainment destination centers" will be built across the country over the next ten years, much the way that shopping malls swept the nation in previous decades. They will be big. They will depend more on vertical space than on horizontal. If they are done properly, they will become magnets for the spending power The power of legislatures to tax and spend.

Spending power is conferred to state and federal legislatures through their constitution. Judicial Review of legislative spending varies from state to state, but the law of federal spending informs courts in all states.
of modern Americans, places where people flock to see the latest in video and live entertainment, in new products, and interactive technology. And yes, places to shop.

A whole new generation of retail tenants is coming to the forefront. They are forward-looking entertainment and food-industry companies whose good ideas and business sense will make them the leaders in the coming decades. These stores will demand physical spaces that are visually interesting and may contain interactive components, and architects must be prepared to stretch their own imaginations to design these new accommodations.

Unlike malls, which all look alike, the new entertainment complexes will all be different. They will take advantage of local flavor and neighborhood nuances. A design can generate excitement by doing the unexpected. Imagine what fun the designers of Chelsea Piers Chelsea Piers, officially Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex, is a series of sports and entertainment buildings constructed on four adjoining piers on the West Side of Manhattan in New York City.  must have had, when they said "Look, we have these old, dilapidated industrial piers - let's turn them into ice skating ice skating, gliding along an ice surface on keellike runners known as ice skates. Another good example is the experience on 42nd Street in New York New York, state, United States

. It used to be laughable to think that the Times Square area would rise from its ashes, but it's actually happening now, thanks in large part to agreements between development and the retailers over the vast amount of space and space configurations needed to build a premier attraction from scratch. AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) See AdvancedTCA. , the entertainment giant, is going to operate 25 movie theaters on five levels on 42nd Street. This is unprecedented in the city, and much of the deal hinged on the creativity that the space's designers were able to bring to the table.

What must be realized is that retail is theater. It is the signage, lighting, display, and drama that draws in the consumer. As the idea of retailing as theater catches on throughout the country, more and more retailers are opening "concept stores" places like Niketown and The Nature Company where the entertaining ambiance am·bi·ance also am·bi·ence

is as compelling as the merchandise for sale.

These industry leaders' needs cannot be ignored. Unlike previous eras, when the developers seemed to hold all the cards, today's retail tenants must have a stake in the space that are creating, since it will be their innovative dreams that will be brought to life there.
