Enterprise IP Modeling and Network Design Now Available from Network Telesystems.

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1998--

IPcentral uniquely integrates both static and dynamic

IP management to better understand, design, and

manage the entire IP network

Network Telesystems Inc. (NTS NTS National Technical Systems
NTS National Trust for Scotland
NTS Nevada Test Site
NTS NT Server (Microsoft Windows)
nts Not the Same
NTS National Traffic System (amateur radio)
), a leader in IP management tools, today announced IPcentral 1.0, an automated IP modeling and network design database system.

Coupled with NTS' existing family of Shadow IP management products, IPcentral provides network administrators with a reliable, scalable, and secure IP management solution.

"NTS has reduced the time, cost, and errors associated with setting up and managing a network," said Ian Calcutt of Integralis, a network security and integration company. "This previously tedious and error-prone process has been fully automated to give highly skilled network professionals the time they need to do more network planning and less troubleshooting. IPcentral used along with IPserver makes IP address management problems virtually disappear."

Powerful Modeling Capabilities

IPcentral is an SQL SQL
 in full Structured Query Language.

Computer programming language used for retrieving records or parts of records in databases and performing various calculations before displaying the results.
database containing network configuration and topology information that includes IP addresses, DNS names, and related data. Its purpose is to centralize information that assists network administrators in planning and designing their intranets. IPcentral contains powerful network design wizards that aid in organizing and designing an IP network, graphically illustrate a network's topology, configure subnets geographically, and organize subnets into Open Shortest Path First Areas (OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) A routing protocol that determines the best path for routing IP traffic over a TCP/IP network based on distance between nodes and several quality parameters. ). IPcentral can also communicate in real-time with IPservers, downloading Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (protocol) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - (DHCP) A protocol that provides a means to dynamically allocate IP addresses to computers on a local area network. The system administrator assigns a range of IP addresses to DHCP and each client computer on the LAN has its TCP/IP  (DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers. ), Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS (Dynamic DNS) A service that lets anyone on the Internet gain access to resources on a local network when the Internet address of that network is constantly changing. Such resources are typically a Web server, Webcam or a PC for remote control operation. ), and Dynamic NetBIOS Name A name assigned to a Windows computer that uses the common 15-character NetBIOS format. See NetBIOS.  Service (DNBNS) configuration data to servers and uploading operational data from the servers.

Advanced Configuration Tool

IPcentral compiles information from scattered and incompatible sources (e.g., HOST files, BootP tab files, spreadsheets, DNS zones files and any text file) into a centralized network configuration relational database relational database

Database in which all data are represented in tabular form. The description of a particular entity is provided by the set of its attribute values, stored as one row or record of the table, called a tuple.
. In addition to network configuration data, IPcentral's database includes information about network device types, asset property data, domain and NetBIOS name assignments, and more. IPcentral's multi-level security allows administrators to delegate network management responsibilities to meet any organizational structure This article has no lead section.

. IPcentral can also import and export DNS zone files and other existing network configuration data, and organize and manage DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the  systems in a mixed-vendor environment.

IPcentral's "network status board" provides a pictorial view of the status of every device in an IP network, so that administrators understand the state of their networks, and can diagnose and correct any configuration errors. While allowing network administrators to diagnose and fix configuration problems in real-time, IPcentral provides an instantaneous view into the operational tables of IPservers. IPcentral is the only IP configuration tool that allows the transfer of network operational data in real-time for Berkeley Internet Name Domain (networking) Berkeley Internet Name Domain - (BIND) An implementation of a DNS server developed and distributed by the University of California at Berkeley.

Many Internet hosts run BIND, and it is the ancestor of many commercial implementations.

"IPcentral is the next generation of IP planning software making it much easier for IT professionals to streamline their more mundane tasks," said Dr. John Dr. John (also Dr. John Creaux) is the stage name of Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. (born November 21, 1940), a colorful pianist, singer, and songwriter, whose music spans, and often combines, blues, boogie woogie, and rock and roll.  Davidson, president of Network Telesystems. "It will drastically reduce network downtime as well as the cost of network configuration. Unlike network spreadsheet products that merely record data about a network, IPcentral works alongside the administrator to help design, configure, and troubleshoot the complete network."

IPcentral will be generally available in late May 1998. IPcentral runs on any Windows 95 or Windows NT system, and has a list price of $2,499.
