With an investment of around 50 billion tire, EniChem Elastomeri. the EniChem company that operates in the group's syinthetic rubbers and latices business, recently started up a neodymium polybutadiene plant in Ravenna, Italy. The product is known as Europrene Neocis and the annual production capacity of the plant is 30,000 tons.

Air Treads, a wholly owned subsidiary of Goodyear Tire & Rubber. announced it has reached agreement for the sale of its aircraft wheel and brake refurbishing business with AlliedSignal's Aircraft Landing Systems, South Bend, IN. The sale includes the inventory and equipment relating to Air- Treads' wheel and brake service operations in Dallas, TX; Kingman, AZ; Allentown, PA; and Moerfelden, Germany. AlliedSignal is expected to take over the wheel and brake operations by the end of the fourth quarter.

Du Pont broke ground recently on a $100 million facility in Pulau Sakra an island off the southern coast of Singapore, to meet the growing demand for Zytel nylon 6,6 resin in the Asia Pacific region. The nylon production facility, scheduled to open in June 1995, will be the firsm major nylon 6,6 polymerization unit in the region, according to the company, and is the second phase of Du Pont's plan to build an integrated nylon complex to serve the Asia Pacific region.

M.A. Hanna, an international specialty chemicals company, has reached an agreement in principle to sell its elastomeric membrane roofing material business to Firestone Building Products, a division of Bridgestone/Firestone. M.A. Hanna will incur a fourth quarter, nonrecurring charge of approximately $30 million, or $1.45 per share, fully diluted, of which $28 million will be the write-off of remaining goodwill and excess purchase price associated with the business. The roofing business, operated by Colonial Rubber Works, a unit of M.A. Hanna, manufactures rubber sheet for non-residential roofing. The business is located in Kingstree, SC and has approxiinately 200 employees.

Rubber Rolls, a Meadow Lands, Pa-based manufacturer of rubber and polyurethane covered rolls for a variety of industrial applications, has completed construction of a 10,000 square foot plant addition. The addition will house new equipment to be used for recovering, core preparation and metal repair. In addition, it will incorporate new technology and equipment for the application of polyurethane which will enable the company to produce larger rolls than possible with existing equipment.

Cytec Industries, a business unit of American Cyanamid, announced the purchase of the business relating to the light stabilizers which are marketed under the Topanex trademark and clarifying/nucleating agents, marketed under the Calrifex trademark, from Zeneca Specialties of Wilimington, DE. Included in the acquisition is a broad base of plastic additive technologies and intellectual property.

United Chemical Technologies announced it has purchased the Silanes and Silicones Catalog business, along with specified small scale commercial products business, from Huls America in Piscataway, NJ. Included in the sale is the HAI Bristol, PA plant. UCT, a manufacturer of surface modified organosilicas used in the analytical and preparative laboratories field, announced plans to consolidate, combine and expand all of its operations at the Bristol location.

In an effort to address the requirements of coatings and adhesives customers, Huls America has announced the start-up of a polyester resin manufacturing unit in Mobile, AL. The unit is part of Huls America's state-of-the-art isophorone derivative plant.

A AmeriHaas announced that one of its parent companies, the Dead Sea Bromine Group, plans to double its production capacity for the recently introduced F-2000 series of brominated epoxy-polymeric flame retardants. Completion of the capacity expansion at the plant, located in Israel, is expected before the end of 1994.

Anafaze, a manufacturer of multi-loop PID controllers for extruders, thermoformers and other plastics industry machines and processes, has moved to Watsonville, CA to facilities three times the size of its previous Santa Cruz, CA location.

A carbon black factory, said to be the largest and most modern in China, located in Qingdao, will be the basis for a planned joint venture in rubber and tire blacks. The venture will be ointly held by Degussa AG, Frankfurt am Main (40%), the German development company Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, DEG (15 %) and the Chinese firm Zhenya Carbon Black (45 %). The name of the joint venture will be Qingdao Degussa Chemical Ltd.

Struktol Company of America announced they will be representing Hoffmann Minerals of Germany, manufacturers of unique non-black fillers. The unique structure of these fillers imparts high surface activity, favorable extrusion properties, with very low compression sets, according to the company.

Uniroyal Chemical has reached an agreement with Lonza Ltd., Basel, Switzerland, and Lonza, Fair Lawn, NJ, to distribute Lonzacure M-CDEA, an aromatic diamine curative used to produce high performance polyurethane elastomers that feature good hydrolytic stability, good high temperature physical properties, excellent dynamic properties under load and high rebound.
