Engineous Software Releases iSIGHT 8.0; Engineous to Maintain Its Strong Market Position with a Series of Product Releases in 2004.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2004

Engineous Software, provider of award-winning integration, automation, and design optimization See automatic design optimization.  software, and related strategic services, announced today the release of iSIGHT 8.0. The latest release will begin shipping this week in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and Europe. Shipping has already commenced in Asia. iSIGHT 8.0 offers major feature enhancements like new Multi-objective Genetic Algorithms Genetic algorithms

Search procedures based on the mechanics of natural selection and genetics. Such procedures are known also as evolution strategies, evolutionary programming, genetic programming, and evolutionary computation.
(MOGA), Satisficing Satisficing is a decision-making strategy which attempts to meet criteria for adequacy, rather than identify an optimal solution. A satisficing strategy may often, in fact, be (near) optimal if the costs of the decision-making process itself, such as the cost of obtaining complete  Tradeoff Analysis, a new Engineering Data Mining (EDM (Engineering Data Management) An information system that maintains the details of all engineering data while the product is in the design and concept phase. This includes geometry and changes to geometry. See PLM.

) tool and an interface that allows rapid integration with Matlab functions and scripts.

New features include two new state-of-the-art MOGA routines, Neighborhood Cultivation Genetic Algorithm (NCGA (National Computer Graphics Association) A Fairfax, Virginia-based organization dedicated to developing and promoting the computer graphics industry. It maintained a clearinghouse for industry information. NCGA closed its doors in 1996. ), and the latest version of the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGAII). These optimizers are specifically tailored to address design problems where there is a need to optimize more than one measure of performance at once - and they generate a Pareto optimal curve of candidate designs, rather than a single point. Additionally, iSIGHT 8.0 will also offer Satisficing Tradeoff Analysis (STA), a compromise approach to multi-objective optimization that eliminates the need to calculate the entire Pareto optimal curve. Rather, a single point on the assumed curve is calculated to satisfy the user's requested goal. Compute time is typically much less than for MOGA. NCGA, NSGAII and STA are offered together in an add-on module included in certain iSIGHT packages.

To support these new algorithms Engineous is also offering a toolkit for iSIGHT's Solution Monitor, the EDM interface, which allows the creation of multiple variable/response plots and 2D scatter plots. It is an interactive tool that allows users to rapidly investigate multiple parameter relationships and Pareto data visually. It can be used to analyze any iSIGHT dataset; however, it is even more effective for viewing Pareto points from a program or method that generates that type of data.

"With iSIGHT 8.0, we have combined powerful new techniques with easy to use interfaces. The MOGA capabilities included in this release are new features in an already impressive toolkit that helps engineers solve, real world engineering problems. However, the addition of the EDM interface allows engineers to understand results, even for complex designs, much faster through improved, easy to understand data analysis," said JP Evans, Engineous Director of Marketing.

iSIGHT 8.0 is the first in a series of product releases scheduled for 2004. Engineous has maintained its leading position in the Process Integration and Design Optimization market because of iSIGHT's ability to significantly reduce product development time and improve product quality. With the company's recent release of FIPER FIPER Federated Intelligent Product Environment , a web-based, distributed engineering process infrastructure, and the ongoing development of advanced design capabilities for iSIGHT, the company will continue to offer customers the most robust enterprise- wide design solution available on the market.
