Engineous Software Awarded Two Government Contracts.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2003

Engineous Software, Inc., provider of award-winning integration, automation, and design improvement software and related strategic services has announced the award of two government contracts that reflect the company's continued commitment to the Defense Industry.

The first award, Multidisciplinary Optimization of Naval Ship Design and Mission Effectiveness provides the Navy with a methodology and modeling and simulation environment for performing multidisciplinary, multivariate optimization of ship system characteristics, relative to complex Naval missions.

Engineous has assembled a very strong team that includes the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Massachusetts Institute of Technology, at Cambridge; coeducational; chartered 1861, opened 1865 in Boston, moved 1916. It has long been recognized as an outstanding technological institute and its Sloan School of Management has notable programs in business,  (Ocean Engineering), and Northrop Grumman/Ingalls, who won the Navy's prestigious DDX DDx

abbreviation for differential diagnosis; used in medical records.
Program for the next generation surface combatant. This team has the domain expertise and experience to formulate a solution that will meet and exceed the Navy's requirements by delivering:

-Integrated mission effectiveness, ship performance and ship

design tools with MDO MDO Multidisciplinary Design Optimization
MDO Multidisciplinary Optimization
MDO Medium Density Overlay (engineered plywood)
MDO Marine Diesel Oil
MDO Mothers Day Out
MDO Mentally Disordered Offender
 capabilities

-Designs that account for uncertainty in input data

-Reduction in time to develop a feasible design

-Exploration of multiple design's in the same or less time

than it takes today to develop a single design

-Robust designs

-Reduction in development cost

-Reduction in schedule creep

-Better design collaboration with partners and contractors

-Built in security

Engineous Director of Aerospace and Defense, Rick Recuparo noted, "Engineous has been providing leading-edge design, integration and optimization technologies to major commercial manufacturers around the world for more than 7 years. What is not generally known is that Engineous has been serving the aerospace and defense sector for this same period of time. In fact, some of our company's early awards were funded by DARPA DARPA: see Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

With our selection for this award, the Navy recognizes that future surface combatant The Future Surface Combatant was the projected successor to Type 22 and Type 23 frigates in service of the British Royal Navy until the programme's de facto cancellation in late 2004.  designs require technology that not only integrate best-in-class design tools but have the capability of managing system-to-system optimization trades utilizing a robust MDO framework like iSIGHT from Engineous."

Engineous was also selected by the Department of the Air Force The executive part of the Department of the Air Force at the seat of government and all field headquarters, forces, Reserve Components, installations, activities, and functions under the control or supervision of the Secretary of the Air Force.  award (Reference: #F04611-03-M-3039) to provide technical research on System Integration Toolsets for Rapid Evaluation of New Propulsion Systems.

This award calls for in-depth investigation of integration strategies associated with diverse design tools utilized for the evaluation of propulsion systems. These tools range from legacy codes such as NASA's Engine Performance Program (NEPP NEPP National Environmental Policy Plan
NEPP NASA Electronic Parts and Packaging
NEPP National Early Psychosis Project
NEPP NASA EEE Parts and Packaging
) to off-the-shelf tools like Ansys, Matlab and Fluent. Engineous proposed the investigation of the integration of these tools into their award-winning framework called iSIGHT, enabling the automation of iterative design exploration studies, as well as leveraging its robust class of optimization, design of experiments and stochastic quality engineering tools. Engineous will also provide a commercial technology path for the Air Force by investigating a rapid deployment strategy for these integrated tools and processes, through its next generation infrastructure called FIPER FIPER Federated Intelligent Product Environment  (Federated Connected and treated as one. See federated database and federated directories.  Intelligent Product Environment). FIPER is a four-year, NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology, Washington, DC, www.nist.gov) The standards-defining agency of the U.S. government, formerly the National Bureau of Standards. It is one of three agencies that fall under the Technology Administration (www.technology.  funded R&D program to develop a standard integration environment for all engineering tools and processes that support the three phases of design.

Recuparo stated that, "It is anticipated that successful completion of this program will provide integrated analysis capabilities for several types of propulsion systems. Such integration will be applicable over the range of engineering disciplines enabling system-to-system analysis to be applied over a wide variety of design problems in both defense and aerospace markets."
