Richard E. Hergert awarded the Engineering Division Technical Award and Beloit Prize

Richard E. Hergert of Rockton Illinois has been selected to receive the TAPPI TAPPI Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry  Engineering Division Technical Award and Beloit Prize in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and contributions which have advanced the industry's technology. The award is accompanied by the Beloit Prize, an honorarium HONORARIUM. A recompense for services rendered. It is usually applied only to the recompense given to persons whose business is connected with science; as the fee paid to counsel.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1961, he joined Beloit Corporation as a research engineer. Hergert was employed with Beloit until his retirement in 1998.

Throughout his career, Hergert focused on the development of new technologies for the wet end of the paper machine and many of his contributions have since become standard industry practice

Hergert holds 15 patents and his work has been widely published throughout the pulp and paper industry The global pulp and paper industry is dominated by North American (United States, Canada), northern European (Finland, Sweden) and East Asian countries (such as Japan). Australasia and Latin America also have significant pulp and paper industries. . A TAPPI member since 1973, he was very active with the Fluid Mechanics fluid mechanics, branch of mechanics dealing with the properties and behavior of fluids, i.e., liquids and gases. Because of their ability to flow, liquids and gases have many properties in common not shared by solids.  Committee for many years and served as Committee Chairman from 1977-1979. In addition to his TAPPI activities, Hergert was a member of the Board of Directors of the Paper Science Foundation for the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point Stevens Point, city (1990 pop. 23,006), seat of Portage co., central Wis., on the Wisconsin and Plover rivers; inc. 1858. The major industries are insurance and the manufacture of wood products, cheese, furniture, and fishing equipment. The Univ. .
