Engineer dog handlers needed!The Engineer Canine Detachment Program continues to grow. Exceptional military occupational specialty A Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) is a job classification in use in the United States Army and Marine Corps. The occupational specialty system uses a system of letters and numbers to identify general and specific jobs of military personnel. (MOS) 21B combat engineers are needed to become dog handlers and work as part of a Specialized Search Dog (SSD) or Mine Detection Dog (MDD) Team. Our Canine Detachments are a major part of the theater commander's counter improvised explosive device Noun 1. improvised explosive device - an explosive device that is improvised I.E.D., IED explosive device - device that bursts with sudden violence from internal energy (IED) measures. The Engineer Regiment is constantly responding to increased requirements for dog teams in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom commanders. Interested 21Bs in the rank of specialist through staff sergeant must be physically and mentally capable of deploying and working independently for maneuver commanders. Handlers must be mature, articulate, assertive, and self-motivated Soldiers who have no fear of dogs A fear of dogs can be developed in some people. The fact that the dog is a domesticated superpredator and the increasing cases of dog attacks reported in media could be factors for developing a fear of dogs. The abnormal fear of dogs, i.e. . Initial screening for interested Soldiers will be conducted telephonically.
